What is Socialization Process OR HR Orientation Process
A socialization process or HR Orientation is often informal, informal can mean poorly planned and haphazard. Socialization or HR orientation can be divided into three phases:
- Anticipatory Phase
- Encounter Phase
- Setting in Phase
1. Anticipatory Phase
At the anticipatory stage of socialization or HR Orientation, applicants generally have a variety of expectation about the organization and job based on accounts provided by newspaper and other media, word of mouth, public relations and so on.
2. Encounter Phase
In the encounter phase of HR orientation, the new hire has started work and is facing the reality of the job. Even if RJP (Realistic Job Preview) was provided, new hires need information about policies and procedures, reporting relationships, rules and so on.
3. Setting in HR Orientation Phase
During this phase of HR orientation, the new hires begin to feel like part of the organization. If the settling in is successful, the employee will feel comfortable with the job. If it is unsuccessful, the employee will fail to develop a sense of membership in the organization.
